ST. CLEARS 53 pts. PEMBROKE DOCK QUINS 12 The Quins ended their travels on the road with a heavy defeat, despite being only 17-5 adrift at the break. The Saints had the first use of the little wind there was and soon put the Quins under pressure. After just eight minutes a high tackle resulted in home outside-half Jamie Davies punishing the visitors with a well-struck penalty. Ten minutes later Saints number eight Daffyd Galvey powered over halfway out and Jamie Davies converted to put his side 10 points to the good. The Quins' scrum was starting to struggle, being pushed back on numerous occasions, and the lineout, which has been a source of some good ball this season, was not functioning as well as it had been. The Saints nearly scored their second try on 20 minutes, but a fine covering tackle by Quins flanker Joe Powell saved the day. On the half-hour they did grab their second, though, when left wing Mark Bowen finished off a fine move when he touched down in the corner. Jamie Davies again added the extras to give his side a 17-point lead. The last 10 minutes of the half, however, belonged to the Quins, with driving mauls causing the Saints some problems. Just on half-time the Quins were rewarded when, after forcing yet another penalty, alert scrum-half Elliot Lewis took a quick tap penalty and fed second row Neil Harries, who crashed over in the corner. Number eight Barry Parsons missed the conversion. Being only 12 points adrift at the break and with a slight breeze behind them, things looked optimistic for the Quins. Five minutes into the second half, however, the Saints struck a decisive blow, when Mark Bowen scored his ssecond try after finishing off a tap penalty. Jamie Davies missed the conversion, but with the lead now up to 22-5 and only one try away from a bonus point, things looked ominous for the Quins. Sadly for the Quins, the Saints did not have to wait too long for their fourth try, when just five minutes later burly second row Daniel Jones powered over under the posts. Jamie Davies added the extras and now the home side were out of sight. The Quins never gave up, even when Saints centre Ceri Jones added his side's fifth try, which was again converted by Jamie Davies, and they responded by a fine try of their own following a fine passing movement down the Saints' left-hand side which ended with Joe Powell sprinting over in the corner for his third try in two games. Number eight Barry Parsons kept his blossoming goal-kicking career going with the best kick of the afternoon as he sent the ball between the uprights from the touchline. All the Quins could do now was to try and get some respectability into the scoreline. But a further three tries in the final 10 minutes from Ceri Jones, fellow centre Dai Jenkins and rplacement flanker Nick Price, with the final one being converted by Jamie Davies, just rubbed salt into the Quins' wounds. With their travels over for the season, the Quins end the campaign with three home games, against local rivals Llangwm tomorrow (Saturday), followed by the visits of high-flying Cefnethin on May 3 and ending with a visit from Pontyates on May 10.
