CEFNEITHIN 46
PEMBROKE DOCK QUINS 5
Pembroke Dock Quins crashed out of the SWALEC Bowl at the first time of asking.
Cefneithin took full revenge for their defeat at Bierspool earlier in the season, as the Quins, who dished out 46 points the previous week, were on the receiving end this time.
The visitors were fronting up well in the early exchanges and could have taken the lead with outside half Lewis Davies just pushing his penalty attempt wide after 15 minutes.
It was to prove costly as Cefneithin hit back five minutes later when right wing Arwyn Watts rounded the Quins defence to score wide out. Owen Lewis missed the conversion.
The Quins pack were standing up well to the home eight with Brendan O'Driscoll, Carl Williams and Dai Moseley excelling in the scrums, but Cefneithin hit the Quins hard with three tries in the space of 10 minutes from centre Will Houlbrooke, flanker Nathan Davies and No 8 Sion Peregrine.
With Owen Lewis converting the latter, it looked like the second half was going to be a tough ask although the Quins would have the wind in their favour.
It was imperative that the Quins scored first if they were going to get back in the game, but unfortunately it was the home side that struck first when virtually straight from the kick-off Houlbrooke scored his second try which was converted by Lewis to push the host into a 29-0 lead.
The Quins soon hit back with a try of their own when Gareth Scourfield, playing out of position at scrum half, forced his way over from close range. Davies failed with the conversion.
The away side were soon back on the offensive going close on a number of occasions running close range penalties, but could not get over the whitewash, and when yet another Quins attack broke down close to the line, the home side broke and scored with an attack which went the length of the field, ending with fullback Sean Walker scoring. Lewis missed the conversion, but Cefneithin scored two more tries before the end from left wing Jonathan Morgan, allowing Lewis to convert one and centre Roy James the other, to round off the scoring.
