Primary school pupils from across the county took to the court recently for the annual Pembrokeshire Dragon Sport Primary Schools Mini Tennis Competition.

Almost 100 boys and girls aged between six and 11 took part in the annual tournament organised by Sport Pembrokeshire - Pembrokeshire County Council's sports development service.

Held at Pembroke School, the youngest pupils - Mini Red (Years 2/3) played indoors, using the badminton courts with lowered nets and sponge balls, while older age groups, Mini Orange (Years 4/5) and Mini Green (Year 6) played on the outdoor tennis courts.

Pupils from Mary Immaculate School in Haverfordwest won the Mini Red Boys and Girls competition and the Mini Green Boys competition.

Pembroke Dock Community School won the Mini Orange Boys and the Mini Green Boys - while Tenby Junior School won the Mini Orange Girls.

Wyndham Williams, 5X60 school sport coordinator said although play had had to be postponed for a period during a thunderstorm, the young players had shown grit and determination, playing through the rain to finish their matches in true Wimbledon style!

All matches were umpired by students from Pembroke School.
