Saundersfoot Sports Club (sponsored by LG Leisure) played host to the Conservative Club from Milford on Monday evening, in their latest league match, and were 3-2 winners.

The first frame saw Dave Wooles play John McCarthy. Dave started slowly, allowing his opponent to open up with a 13-point break. Dave was then unlucky to go in-off twice in a row, to find himself 14 points down mid-frame.

He then got going with some good pots of his own, but by the colours was still 10 points adrift. His fightback continued as he potted to the pink to himself go four points ahead, but it was not over yet. Inevitably the frame went to the black, which fortunately Dave sank for the win (not the best frame).

The second frame saw Darren Morgan play Richard Shinner. Darren started with a 17 break, which was quickly followed by 14 from Richard, By mid-frame, however, things had got bogged down a little, until Darren pushed on again. Unlike, the first frame, this was an open contest, with both players potting well. Darren soon extended his lead and was too good, closing the frame out well (good frame).

The third frame saw Martin Durham play Alan Roberts. Martin had a dip in form last week, so was eager to make amends. He started OK and was soon 20 points to the good, but like the previous two frames, this one also got bogged down in the middle as it became a rather long drawn out affair. Nevertheless, Martin continued to pot some nice balls, including the black to clinch the frame.

The fourth frame saw Steve Barlow play J. Lewis. Steve started OK, against a young debutant, who, it must be said, was fearless, opening up a 21-point lead by mid frame. By the colours, Steve had fought his way back into it, to be only 12 adrift, but despite battling right to the end, it was all to no avail.

The final frame saw Dean Ludlow play Dai Oughton. Dean was not in the best of form either, starting slowly, as this frame followed a similar pattern to the others by getting bogged down in the middle. At this stage, Dean was six points down, but he battled back well and somehow managed to the turn the frame on its head, being nine points up on the blue and needing just one ball.

His opponent then went in-off and with just pink and black left, Dean was 10 points up and still requiring just one ball, which unfortunately he failed to get.
