Saundersfoot Sports Club (sponsored by LG Leisure and Dave Wooles Decorating) played away to the Balfour Club in Haverfordwest on Monday evening and were 3-2 losers.
The first frame saw Glyn Davies play Terry McBride. Glyn only played four shots in the whole frame, including the break, as his opponent compiled breaks of 23 and 40 to win comfortably (no change there then Glyn).
The second frame saw Mark Cleevely play Simon Pearce. Mark started the stronger opening up a small six-point lead and by the colours this had been extended to 17. However, his opponent then potted green, brown and blue, while a foul by Mark allowed the Balfour man to take the lead and go on to close out the frame on the black.
The third frame saw Darren Morgan play Alan Griffiths. Darren started slowly, falling behind early on, but he then began to find his potting form. However, Alan was no mug, potting good balls himself, and by mid frame there was only one point in it. Alan then out-potted Darren to win comfortably in the end.
The fourth frame saw Steve Cook play Anthony Griffiths. Steve started cautiously, but soon got going, compiling a 32 break, and by the colours was 16 points up. Back came Anthony to close the gap to 11, but Steve then potted brown, blue and pink to win.
A good final frame saw Dave Wooles play Peter Smiddy. Dave started slowly, with both players missing relatively easy balls. However, by mid-frame, Dave had started to get things together and was 20 points to the good. This was extended to 27 by the colours and the Saundersfoot man continued to stretch away with some excellent pots to win comfortably in the end (good frame).
NB: Saundersfoot Sports Club snooker team would like to wish the Observer and all its readers a merry Christmas and prosperous New Year.
