LAST Saturday the First XV travelled to take on the Pembroke Dock Harlequins, in a much awaited return, local derby, with the Quins wanting revenge for their defeat at Crickmarren back in September, writes Darrell Willington.

The field was a heavy underfoot after lots of rain, but the rain held off on a windy day as a vary large, expectant, seasonal crowd assembled.

The highly motivated Quins forwards started the stronger down the slope and scored the first try of the match after eight minutes, following a period of intense pressure on the Pembroke line.

A period of stalemate followed, but Quins continued to maintain pressure on their visitors, until the start of the second quarter when they snaffled loose ball on the half way line

Centre Price made a break and sprinted forty metres to score an excellent individual effort, converted by Hathaway.

Minutes later, after winning a scrum on the halfway and some adept handling, Price cantered over for another converted try to extend Quins lead.

Quins were dominant throughout the half, with the visitors making too many unforced errors on their rare incursions into the Quins half. Quins after more late pressure kicked a penalty to give them a huge 22-0 lead at the break.

Pembroke rarely got into the Quins half in the second half and when they did they were undone by more errors.

Quins seemed so much more motivated and energetic and their relentless efforts paid off at the start of the final quarter, when after good work by the forwards, Price cantered over for his third and the decisive converted try and the forwards got involved very late in the half to put the final nail in Pembroke’s coffin, with a try of their own; leaving them deservedly victorious by 34-0 and the visitors to rue a very lack lustre, disjointed performance.

The Youth travelled to Aberystwyth, where they performed well but were beaten by a strong well drilled Aber outfit.

Upcoming fixture include, the annual Exiles fixture on Boxing Day, which will be followed by some entertainment and the usual hospitality in the club. The Youth play Narberth away on Jan 3, whilst the Panthers return to action on Jan 4 away to Morriston, having gained huge confidence from their recent WRU Bowl win.
