Pembroke's Conservative Club are Division One champions!
With the final matches of the league fixtures being played, the Con's 9-2 win at the Cricketers saw them overhaul the First and Last by three points to become champions for the first time. Although the Cricketers won both the 1001 and Captain's Cup games, individual performances from Dai Donohoe, scoring his first 180 of the season, Tony Skuse, recording a 108 check-out, and Dennis Phillip,s completing his game in just 16 darts (adding to previous 16, 15 and 12-darters thrown earlier in the season) saw the new champions home and dry.
The Dolphin finished their season on a high, winning 9-2 at home to the Phoenix, while Pembroke Cons A team completed the top four with a win against the Black Rabbit, where Liam Roberts won his game in just 15 darts, checking out with an impressive treble 20, single 12, double 16.
Finally, the First and Last B team enjoyed an exciting 7-4 victory at the Alma to finish a very respectable fifth place, particularly after the early hiccups experienced at the beginning of the season.
To complete the division's results, the First and Last were 1001 winners, with the Cons B and Dolphin runners-up. The captains of the First and Last and Cons, Geoff Humphreys and Dennis Phillips, respectively, shared the honours in the Captains Cup competition.
In Division Two, the Rose and Crown lost 8-3 at home to the Alma, having at one stage been 6-0 down. However, they finish as Division Two winners with a huge 34 points lead over second place. Winning the 1001 competition, also by some distance, and Mark Thomas finishing as joint Captain's Cup winner with the Alma's Jamie Hiatt, completed an excellent season for the Rose.
Cricketers B finish as runners-up thanks to the close encounter at the Bird in Hand. The Alma B certainly gave their all trying to catch them, but even after their epic 8-3 win, certainly the result of the season, they finished just one point behind in third place.
Club Martello also finished the season in fine style to claim fourth and also runners-up in the 1001 competition, while Cromwells also signed off with a similar score at the Black Rabbit.
Congratulations also must go to the Watermans, who this time enjoyed victory at the Prince of Wales. Playing as well as they have of late, it seems that the season may have ended just too soon for them.
I am sure they will now try to replicate the form they have been showing in the cup competitions still to be played.
