Paul Davies MS caught up with Chris McEwen and the team at Pembroke & Pembroke Dock Amateur Boxing Club on Thursday, October 30 and saw first-hand the incredible work they're doing in the local community.

From sessions supporting people affected by strokes and Parkinson's to junior and senior inclusion boxing, wheelchair boxing and early years mobility rehabilitation, the club is making sport accessible to people of all ages and abilities.

Mr Davies even had a go at their Golden Gloves virtual reality boxing – although he’s not sure he’s quite ready to step into the ring!

“What really struck me was the passion and commitment of Chris and the volunteers, who are creating opportunities for people to build confidence, improve their wellbeing, make friends and feel part of something special,” said the Welsh Conservative Senedd Member for Ceredigion-Penfro.

“We also had a really positive conversation about their ambitions to expand the club's facilities and create even more opportunities through sport, education and community support.

“I took away a number of issues to follow up on, and I'm keen to see how I can support their plans for the future.”

Thanking Chris, the volunteers and everyone who had made him so welcome, he added: “It's community organisations like this that remind us just how powerful sport can be in changing lives.”
