The Thursday, June 28, Seniors fixture saw Carmarthen Seniors turning up in force for what I am reliably informed is their favourite match of the season. While Carmarthen boasts a fine parkland course - and now an excellent new all weather driving range - the general opinion of the Carmarthen team was that Tenby links present a better challenge while offering a more satisfying reward.

The 20 players from each club were no strangers to each other; over the years almost everybody has played against almost everybody else, so the match was played at a comfortable level of friendly competitiveness.

The photograph shows the first four ball, comprising Carmarthen Seniors' captain Colin Lewis and his partner Clive Evans alongside Tenby Seniors vice-captain Anthony Morgan and his partner, secretary Jeff Banfield, leaving the first tee, all four full of hope and anticipation - two sadly doomed to disappointment!.

The weather was atypically kind, quite a pleasant temperature and just enough wind to focus one's attention, so that - with a few minor exceptions - the 10 matches progressed at a speed which would not dismay Peter Allis!

Back in the clubhouse after the match; showered, changed and switched from competition mode to social mode, the teams shared a match meal and the odd medicinal tincture before the charity raffle draw and the announcement of the result. I can inform you that while Tenby lost 4-1 in the raffle prize stakes - the match result was a much more satisfying 7.5 to 2.5 in our favour - Hurrah!

No doubt the Carmarthen gentlemen will be seeking revenge when we travel to their course on August 2.

See you there.
