Narberth 41 Bridgend Athletic 27
In their first home match for four weeks, the Otters ran in six glorious tries with some exhilarating running rugby which had supporters on their feet to produce a bonus point win over a committed Bridgend Athletic team.
The visitors play attractive rugby and it made for an entertaining game for the spectators who braved the chilly wind.
Despite the chill in the air, the sun shone and conditions were ideal for running rugby on a surprisingly firm surface.
The Otters revelled in the conditions and led 15-6 at the interval. The opening score was the result of an unconverted try by scrum-half Adrian Killa from a tap penalty with a brilliant diagonal run towards the right corner.
After three penalties in quick succession, two from the accurate boot of Athletic fly-half Steven Lewis and one by Narberth winger James Russell, Otters' captain and centre Steve Martin finished off a polished innovative move with a try converted by James Russell.
Seven tries were scored in total in the second half, three for the visitors with full-back Mark Bennett Jones crossing the line twice, one of which was an interception try from well inside his own half, supplemented by a last ditch try by centre Rhys Ward Jones.
Steven Lewis maintained his 100 per cent record by converting all three.
The Otters tries came from winger Tom Bonnell with a great finish in the right corner following superb handling by the Narberth backs and a brace by full-back Jonathan Morgan.
Ever on the look out for an attacking option, Morgan latched on to a clever chip over the top by fly-half Stuart Morris for the first and a well-judged cross field kick by Morris for his second.
Hooker Dan Smith celebrated his return to action, after being sidelined through injury to finish off a move by the forwards near the left corner for the fourth Narberth try of the second half.
James Russell converted two of the tries and Stuart Morris converted one try.
Commenting after the match, director of rugby Jonathan Dodd said: "We were very pleased to get a bonus point win against Bridgend Athletic. We played some good rugby, scored good team tries and our defence was excellent in the first half.
"Unfortunately, when we had the game won, we relaxed a bit and let Athletic back into the game. The Bridgend team deserve full credit as they kept playing until the final whistle.
"Our patterns of play went very well and it was nice to bounce back after losing away to Bargoed last week.
"We are the fourth or third best side in the league so far this season, but we must make sure that we continue to play well to maintain that consistency.
"As coaches, we were impressed with the way that the players created the tries today, as they were all excellent team tries.
"Although some players are sidelined through injury, we have a squad at present which is much better equipped to cope with injuries."
The Health Centre Balcony Suite match sponsors were the Friends of the late Philip Rice and the County Financial Otters' Holt match sponsors, the Templeton Supporters selected Stuart Morris as the man of the match.
There were other good performances by Jonathan Morgan, prop Steffan Jones, Dan Smith and centre Rhys Roberts.
The match ball sponsors were Tenby Male Choir and the Contented Sole.
Tomorrow (Saturday November 3), Narberth are away to Cardiff Metropolitan University.
Narberth fielded: Jonathan Morgan, Tome Bonnell, Steve Martin (captain), Rhys Roberts (Richard Davies), James Russell (Will Lewis), Stuart Morris, Adrian Killa (Jarad Bayliss), Dan Smith, Tom Slater, Gyles Vaughan, Alex Jenkins, Lawrence Reynolds, Wayne Williams and Timoci Kaumaitotoya.
