Former Greenhill pupil Bruce Tasker will finally get his hands on an Olympic medal after it was announced last week that Team GB’s four-man bobsleigh team from the Sochi 2014 Winter Games will be officially handed a bronze medal.
The International Olympic Committee confirmed that the quartet which along with Bruce included John Jackson, Joel Fearon and Stuart Benson, are now Olympic medalists, despite finishing fifth in the event at the time - after it emerged in December of 2017 that the two Russian crews that finished in front of Team GB had been disqualified for doping offences.
Thirty-one-year-old Bruce who was born and grew-up in Manorbier has now become the first ever Welsh athlete to win a medal at the Winter Olympics.
The athlete who retired from the sport last October due to health issues, said it was ‘just tremendous’ to have the decision officially ratified, although no arrangements have been confirmed as of yet for an official presentation.
