Oakwood Theme Park has played host to around 2,000 sporty youngsters and their proud parents for the 24th annual Pembrokeshire Primary Schools Cross Country event.

The event attracted competitors from across the county with a total of 925 youngsters taking part at different age levels from 52 county primary schools and a crowd of more than 1,000 spectators cheering them on.

The race is run at the award-winning attraction every year and, despite the occasional shower, this year's race proved particularly popular with competitors and spectators alike.

Oakwood Theme Park's, Clare Stansfield, said: "I think it is safe to say conditions were somewhat challenging with the changeable weather, but that did nothing to deter a great crowd of enthusiastic spectators.

"Oakwood is delighted to be supporting such a positive activity for youngsters in the county," she added.

In the Year 3 girls category, Eleanor White from Roch School took first place, Maddie James, Lamphey, second and Lara Thomas, Bro Ingli, third. Roch School also collected the Year 3 girls team award.

Year 3 boys result was a win for Eddie Waring from Tenby Juniors, Bobbie Jenkins, second, Milford Juniors, Mason Dolling, third, St. Francis, Milford Haven. Cleddau Reach won the Year 3 team award.

Year 4 girls saw Lucy Wintle first running for Tenby Juniors, Elan Roberts, second, Ysgol Glan Cleddau, Ffion Ousely, third, Maenclochog. The team award went to Tenby Juniors.

Year 4 boys Iori Badham from Tenby Juniors, first, Sam Fallows, Bro Ingli, second, Ollie Hughes, Saundersfoot, third. Milford Juniors won the Team Award.

Year 5 girls, Esme Pykett, first, Roch, Amy White, second, Roch, Katie Hill, Broadhaven, third. Team award - Roch.

Year 5 boys, Leon Davies first, Fenton, Thomas Fallows, second, Bro Ingli, Evan Watts, third, Glan Cleddau and the team award went to Saundersfoot.

Year 6 girls, Seren James, first, St. Aidan's Church in Wales VA , Kasia Cook, second, Lamphey, Menna Davies, third, Brynconin and the team award was won by Ysgol Glan Cleddau.

Year 6 boys, Iori Humphreys, first, Orielton, Cian Harries, second, Spittal, Jack Jones, third, Golden Grove, team award - Narberth.

This year's winners of the Gerald Codd Shield for overall team winners were Milford Haven Juniors and winners of the Small School Shield were Redhill.

Since the inauguration of the event in 1990, many youngsters have gone on to win Welsh Schools' and Welsh Athletics' vests in cross country and track events.
