Pembroke Dock Quins 5 pts.
Aberaeron 21
The Quins were desperately unlucky not to come away with something from a match in which they competed well from the first whistle to the last.
Right from the outset, the Quins' scrum was in a dominant mood, with props Gary Burns and Tom Kaijaks causing immense problems for the visitors, and with the strong running of fullback Paul Jonkers, things were certainly looking up for the Quins.
Scoring opportunities, though, were limited as both defences were on top, with runs from left winger Sam Davies and flanker Mike Davis coming to no avail.
As the half wore on, the Quins were getting on the front foot and, after spurning a number of shots at goal, came very close to scoring when Tom Kaijaks got over the line, but was held up by some determined Aberaeron defence.
As the half drew to a close, both sides had chances to score, with the Quins trying to force their way over the line, but the move broke down and the visitors could well have scored had not scrum-half Sion Evans miscued his hack through in spectacular fashion.
As the second half started, the Quins must have thought they were in with a chance of victory, but it was the visitors who struck first when second row Gethin Hughes forced his way over close to the posts to give Sion Evans an easier shot at goal, and he duly obliged.
It was a major blow to the Quins, but they came storming back, even forcing their opponents to switch their props around, which helped slightly.
Jonkers then took the game by the scruff of the neck with a fine try which he richly deserved after beating at least five would-be tacklers to score from halfway out.
Outside-half Andrew Price was unlucky with the conversion as it just faded at the last second.
With the score now 7-5 in the visitors' favour, it was all to play for, but just as the Quins were getting back in the game, Aberaeron struck with another converted try from centre Olly Sawyer.
Aberaeron's bench was now starting to tell on the Quins and with the last move of the match replacement second row Keiran Etheridge touched down underneath the posts.
Evans nonchalantly drop-goaled his third conversion of the match as the final whistle sounded.
