West Wales Sub-Regional Championships: On November 24 and 25, a team of 28 swimmers competed in the West Wales Sub-Regional Championships. This gala gives swimmers the opportunity to achieve qualifying times for the West Wales Championships held in February. The weekend started with the longer races, 1500m for boys and 800m for girls, and it was evident that the Tenby team was up for the challenge.

All competitors swam technically well and, of the seven swimmers taking part, seven personal bests were achieved, the highlights being Jemma Hurds' gold medal in the 11-12-year-old 800m, and Talia Merriman gaining a bronze medal in the 13-14-year-old 800m.

The sessions were long and tiring, but spirits were high within the team, and this was noted by other coaches, who were impressed with the effort being put in by our swimmers - especially distance from dives and work from the wall on every turn.

From a 'personal best' point of view, the Tenby swimmers achieved an 82 per cent PB rate, which is exceptional and really does reflect on all the hard work all are putting in during training.

As a team, Tenby accumulated a total of 26 individual medals and eight out of 12 relay medals.

Notable achievements over the weekend were: Jemma Hurds - one gold (800m), two silvers (100m fly and 200m breast); Harrison Cole-Picton - one gold (200m back), one silver (100m back) and one bronze (200m IM); Hazel Fox and Dan Davies both claimed golds in their respective 200m butterfly; Ffion Davies picked up one gold (200m breast) and one silver (100m back).

Other medallists included: - Talia Merriman, Billy Greenwood, Arabella Haley, Caleb O'Neill, Owen Thomas, Charlotte O'Neill, Katie Hicks and Niamh Slack.

The final session was the eagerly anticipated relays. We entered 12 teams in total and in some really exciting races the Tenby Dolphins swam away with eight medals.

The 9-11 year old boys - Harrison, Morgan, Billy and Caleb - collected gold in the freestyle relay and a silver in the medley relay; the 13/under boys - Luke, Owen, Ben, Harrison and Caleb - collected two silvers in both medley and freestyle relays; the 12/under girls – Ashleigh, Jemma, Arabella, Emily and Lillie - collected gold in the medley and a silver in the freestyle; the 15/under boys - Harry, Dan, Owen and Luke - came third in their medley relay; and finally, the 14/under girls - Talia, Hazel, Ffion and Katie - collected a gold for the freestyle relay.

Well done to all the swimmers who competed over the weekend - the hard work in training is really paying off.

Swimmers of the Month, November: Arabella Hayley - Squad. Arabella was selected by the coaches to be the 'squad' swimmer of the month due to her hard work in training and her successful performances at recent galas, especially at Neath.

The hard work put into training and the times produced have resulted in Arabella being selected for the Pembrokeshire county 'potential squad' and 'south side squad'. Keep up the hard work!

Ella Warren Stock - Water Dragons/Development Squad. Ella has really impressed the coaches with her enthusiasm and swimming ability.

The effort Ella has put in over the past few months has been rewarded with a move to the development squad. She also competed really well in the recent Pembrokeshire County Championships and claimed two silver medals for her efforts. Well done Ella - keep up the good work.
