Narberth and Whitland Rugby Clubs will be back in action tomorrow (Saturday) when Division One West league fixtures resume after a break of two weeks.

The Otters will be home to Bridgend Athletic and the Borderers away to UWIC in Cardiff.

The round of return league fixtures started early in December, but after a period of regular league and cup rugby each week, the remainder of the season will be interrupted by enforced breaks because of the programme of Six Nations international matches in February and March.

At present, Narberth lead the league table with 46 points from 14 matches, but they are only seven points ahead of Carmarthen Athletic in sixth place, who like the other teams in the top six have a game in hand over the current leaders.

Narberth are two points ahead of Tata Steel, but only three points separate the remaining top six teams, who include Whitland in fourth place on 40 points.

Players, supporters and club treasurers thrive on regular matches each week and players get rusty without match practice.

In addition, without regular club rugby, supporters lose the incentive to attend or simply get mixed up as to when the next home fixture is scheduled. Consequently, club treasurers find cash flow drying up.

In the intensity of competition in Division One West, it is difficult to predict the table on Saturday night, and even more of a lottery to forecast which team will end up as champions at the end of the season.

In the Carmarthen Tyre Services Championship West Wales Premier League, fourth placed Whitland Wanderers will hold the aces away to bottom of the table Narberth in the local derby.
