The better weather last weekend meant that the Single Handed Race was able to go ahead and after much planning and practising, success went to Tom Bromby in Artisan. This weekend, the start of Seafair Haven 2014 is marked tomorrow (Saturday) with Lawrenny Yacht Club's Regatta. The cruiser sailing race starts at 12 midday from Lawrenny Point. It is an open race forming part of the Haven Regatta Series and is sailed under the Byron James Handicap. There will be a £10 entry and any further details are available from Rear Commodore Sail Bob Allen on 07531 466236. A rapturous welcome and commendable presentation will follow the race in the marquee at the Lawrenny Arms. From 1 pm onwards, there will be a land-based RNLI fete, featuring the RNLI ladies gift stall, the great crab fishing competition for the younger enthusiast under the expert guidance of Captain Hook, various other stalls and games. There will also be a raffle. If anyone has any energy left, all this will be followed by a BBQ and Cider Festival, again in the marquee at the Lawrenny Arms, and will feature entertainment by the popular group The Twurzels. It is a very busy time for the yacht club, as the following weekend on Saturday, June 14, the annual River Carnival will be starting at 6 pm, with boats congregating to leave Lawrenny for Cresswell Quay. Many will be in disguise depending on the great imagination and skill of their crew. Many of the crews crews will also be in fancy dress. There will be a BBQ on arrival at Cresswell Quay. Prizes will kindly be sponsored by the Cresselly Arms and Doombar for the following: longest private boat to arrive at the Quay; best dressed boat; first boat to arrive (by water); best dressed crew; best dressed individual junior; best dressed junior team; best dressed adult; best dressed tender; best dressed kayak and crew; mystery prize. Everyone is welcome and the competition is open to all. Follow Lawrenny Yacht Club on Facebook or see their website lawrennyyachtclub.com
