Every golf captain hopes that their Captain's Day will be fine and this year it has probably seemed a forlorn hope, but Vicki Burks was really lucky on August 2, with only a very short shower in the morning and then wall to wall sunshine.
The wind seemed to be rather tricky and of course searching for a ball in the rough this year is a lost cause, so the scores were not as good as most competitors hoped.
The competition was Stableford with the 53 competitors divided into four groups: 0-10, 11-20, 21-30, 31-36. Even those not happy with their overall game could aim for one of the extra prizes.
After a late tea, Vicki presented her prizes and she was thanked, on behalf of everyone, by the winner of the Captain's Prize, Marion Clarke, for a very enjoyable day. Marion did not forget David Morgan who photographed all the players on the 12th tee and also Bob, Vicki's husband, who distributed some delectable refreshments, also on the 12th tee. Did the contents of the jugs used have any bearing on the final results? We will never know, but Vicki and Bob deserve all our thanks for a memorable day.
