This month's outing for Kilgetty Golf Society was to the north of the county, the picturesque Newport Golf Club (writes J.J.). Seventeen players made their way by car, either through or around snow blizzards atop the Preselis, and were pleasantly surprised to find Newport bathed in sunshine and relatively warm.

The scores revealed that some found the going difficult, whilst others enjoyed the challenge.

After a coffee and bacon roll, the teams split into two groups, three teed off from the first and the other two from the 10th. First trio off the first tee, Simon Swan Davies, Keith Director Leverton and Dave Boy Green. A normally steady player, the Swan, was not up to par and struggled to 20 points. His partners fared better, the Director coming in with 28, while the Boy was happy with 30 points.

Meanwhile, from the 10th were John Homer Perrott, Kelvin Blinds Boughey and Roger Landlord Woodward. The Landlord enjoyed the course, setting a target of 31 points. His team-mates did not do so well, Homer reaching 20 and Blinds a contender for the wooden spoon on 17.

Second trio off the first was Anthony Wiseguy Ryan, Trevor Santa Lewis and Steve Swan Jones. All three had some poor shots, scoring 30, 27 and 25 points, respectively.

A foursome of Mark Woody Wood, Darrell Smoothie Jones, Peter Bandit Hughes and Shaun Chatterbox Taylor teed off from the 10th and, apart from Woody on 23 points, had a good combined score, Smoothie 33, Bandit 30 and Chatterbox 26, putting them in with a chance of the team prize.

Last foursome away from the first consisted of Graham Victor Longster, (welcome to the society), Roger Analyst Handcock, Stuart Del Boy Evans and Barry Chippie Wood. The latter three failed to show their usual form, Analyst 23 points, Del Boy 17 and Chippie 26. On his debut, Victor showed he would be a future contender for the yellow cap.

After hot showers, liquid refreshments and a hot meal, the results were revealed. Leader this month with 33 p;oints, Darrell Smoothie Jones - down to a nine handicap next outing! Second place went to Graham Victor Longster and in third position with 31, Roger Landlord Woodward. Team prize was won by Woody, Smoothie, Bandit and Chatterbox. Over 20 handicap winner, the Landlord. On countback, the wooden spoon was presented to Del Boy for his 17 points. Nearest the pin, the only player to hit the green, the aptly named Dave Boy Green. Longest drive went to Shaun Chatterbox Taylor.

Many thanks to Keith Leverton for sponsoring the prizes for the day.
