Tenby United 81 pts.

Tenby United certainly gave their promotion hopes a boost on Saturday, scoring no less than 12 tries in their impressive demolition of sixth place Cardigan in Division Three West.

The Andrew Price, GD Harries, FBM Holidays and Molson Coors sponsored Seasiders were keen to continue their winning ways, following the 37-nil win on the road at Tumble the week before, and had worked hard on the training pitch all week, expecting a repeat of the hard fought battle that was the away fixture earlier in the season where the Tenby outfit eventually scraped through with a tight win.

The first 10 minutes at Heywood Lane seemed to be going the same way as both teams sized each other up, with neither making much headway until a quick turnover in midfield by in-form open-side flanker Luke Hansford allowed scrum-half Crockford to get the ball to number 10 Lloyd Thomas, who effortlessly side-stepped three defenders on his way in, to touch down for the first of two tries that he would score, helping him to a personal haul of 29 points.

Thomas's conversion gave the home side a seven-point lead on 11 minutes and Cardigan's Iestyn Crompton struck back with a well-struck penalty after 13 minutes to keep his side in the game.

For the next few minutes at least that is, because when young centre and man-of-the-match Jack Price cantered in for the first of his two tries on the 20-minute mark, he unlocked the Cardigan floodgates as the now confident Seasiders managed another four tries in the remainder of the first half.

The tries came following some impressive and expansive rugby from United, with touchdowns coming from Lloyd Thomas, Luke Dedman, Jack Guerreiro and the second of Price's brace.

Thomas slotted five of the six Tenby tries in the first half and also added a penalty, giving his side a half-time lead of 43 points to Cardigan's three, with the bonus point in the bag for good measure.

Much of the same was the message from Tenby skipper Chris James as the second half got underway and the Seasiders gave the already shell-shocked visitors no time to compose themselves as some excellent work in the contact area from the hosts' pack meant that number eight Roy Osborn could beat Cardi's defence to crash over for the 42nd minute score which Thomas was only too happy to convert, putting his side on the half-century mark.

It was all one-way traffic from now on, with the Seasiders throwing the ball around in their open, expansive style, giving good value to the crowd of spectators that had gathered in the St. Davids Day sunshine to witness what had become a rout.

The home side ran in five further tries from Crockford, Osborn grabbing his second, Hansford, Toby Smith, who also added his own conversion, and the hat-rick earning try from Osborn rattling up the Seasiders tally to a very impressive 81 points.

The visitors did manage a consolation score, however, with number eight Llyr Griffiths barging his way through the otherwise watertight Tenby defence to score the unconverted try after picking up from the back of an uncontested scrummage, ending the game with Tenby well out of reach at 81 points to eight.

Tenby will take plenty from the match after easily dominating every area of the game and will have worked very hard this week in the hope of adding another league win tomorrow (Saturday) when they face-off against the massively improved Pontyberem at Heywood Lane and will certainly not be letting the fact that their guests currently sit at the bottom of the division fool them, knowing very well that they are in for a very hard afternoon and, although confident, they will also bring a healthy respect for their opponents.

The Seasiders are still right in the race for promotion and they do their best for the town every week and now need as many people of Tenby as possible to come along and support them at Heywood Lane with kick-off being 2.30 pm, and help the boys in their bid to do something very special.

With Milford Haven conceding the Pembs KO Cup semi-final game that was scheduled for Tuesday night, the boys are now in their third cup final in a row and the date and venue of the final will be announced very soon.
