A TALENTED young surfer making waves on both the national and international stage is once again receiving support from BCRS Business Loans as she prepares for an exciting new season.

Fifteen‑year‑old Josie Hawke, from Newgale, Pembrokeshire, has quickly become one of Wales’ brightest up‑and‑coming surfers since taking up the sport aged 10. Having already competed across the UK and Europe, she is now focused on building her experience and pushing her progression further this year.

Josie enjoyed a standout 2024–25 season, delivering a dominant display at the Welsh Surfing National Junior Championships, where she successfully defended her titles in the U14, U16 and U18 Girls categories. She also finished a close second at Boardmasters and won the Rip Curl GromSearch U16 event.

“Last season was really positive,” Josie said. “This year I’ve set myself new goals, including performing well in national and European competitions, and improving by surfing different breaks and conditions. I’m working hard on my fitness too, with cardio training and gym sessions twice a week. I’m grateful for BCRS’ continued support and hope to make them proud.”

BCRS will also continue sponsoring the Welsh Surfing Federation, backing events such as the WSF Junior Surf Series. The organisation previously supported Josie in attending a week‑long training camp in Lagos with the Welsh Junior Team.

Josie’s mother, Izzy Pullin, praised her daughter’s dedication: “Josie works incredibly hard and is always looking to improve, whether that’s travelling to new surf spots or focusing on fitness. BCRS’ support means she can continue gaining experience and developing in the sport she loves.”

Stephen Deakin, Chief Executive of BCRS Business Loans, added: “Josie is an exceptional young talent. Her commitment is inspiring, and we’re proud to support her as she pursues her ambitions.”
