THE Wales Golf Mini-Masters tournament held at Trefloyne Golf Club on Wednesday, 23 July was a massive success, with young golfers travelling from about 20 clubs across South Wales.
And about a dozen of them were girls, which shows the way women’s golf is growing among the juniors.
The 18-hole stableford competition produced some fantastic scores, with the top three all hitting 40 or more.
Phoebe Gorvett from Swansea Bay and Sophia Lewis Mills (Machynys) each scored 36 points, with Phoebe taking fifth spot with a better back nine.

In third place with a splendid 40 points was Rhys Griffiths (15 handicap), one ahead of his brother Steffan (20), from Carmarthen.
The runner up, playing off 28, was Richard O’Mahoney, from Swansea Bay, who must have thought his 45 points would be good enough.
But a shot clear on a tremendous 46 was Myles Jones (20) from Morlais Castle.
The Volvik Challenge winners were, in the 18-hole event, Trefloyne’s Liam Bain, and in the 9-holer, Iestyn Hawksley.
In the nine-hole event, Flossy Riggs took the Girls 7-and-under category, with Amelie Holyoake leading the 8-9 year-olds and Ella Evans taking the 10/11 year-old group.
Rory Henshaw from Trefloyne won the Boys 7-and-under group, with Tomos Lloyd-Davies taking the 9-10 year-old category with a better back nine.
In the 12+ group Josh Richards, another Trefloyne youngster, took the honours.
And there’s no stopping young Rory
Because of his excellent scores in a range of Wales Golf competitions, young Rory Henshaw, at the ripe young age of 5, has qualified for the finals of the 2025 Ping Welsh Junior Tour Final (Under-8s) in Carmarthen, on Sunday, 28 September.
He received his letter of invitation from the Wales Golf Competitions team last week.
Congratulations to a rising star.
