TENBY Golf Club’s Captain’s Day 2026 proved a tremendous success, with 142 golfers taking part in support of The DPJ Foundation, a charity dedicated to supporting mental health in rural communities.
Players travelled from across the UK and from as far afield as Germany, Canada, the USA and Singapore, adding to a fantastic atmosphere throughout the day and showing the growing appeal of both the event and Tenby Golf Club.
Play began at 8am, with the final tee time at 2.40pm. Although the weather stayed kind, strong winds across the course provided a true links challenge and made scoring far from easy.
Club Captain Brian Jones paid tribute to everyone who helped make the day such a success. “I would like to thank Jamie Acton and the Greens Team for presenting the course in such outstanding condition.
“I would also like to thank Scott, Daniel and all the hospitality and catering team, who started serving bacon rolls at 7.30am and continued providing first-class service right through to the final food service at 8pm.
“The feedback from visitors was exceptional and made me very proud of our club. Visitors were full of praise for both the course and the welcome they received.”
Examples included: “The golf course and clubhouse staff were top class. You have a lovely place. See you soon.”
“We had a great day. Testing conditions on the front nine, but the course played fair. Tenby has been a favourite of mine since we visited during the Daily Mail Foursomes a few years back.”
“Many thanks for the day and the welcome we received.”
The golf itself was fiercely competitive, with two teams recording an excellent 86 points. The winners were eventually decided on countback. Congratulations go to Rhian Walters, Rob Morgan, Andy Reynolds and Gwynedd Morgan of Derllys Court Golf Club, who claimed first place and £125 Pro Shop vouchers, kindly sponsored by Valero.
Runners-up were Diana Dredge, Mick Seal, Roger Barton and Steve Williams of Tenby Golf Club, who each received £75 Pro Shop vouchers.
Third place went to Jon Large, Steve Lewis, Tony Andrews and Glenn Smith of Tenby Golf Club, who each received a £50 Pro Shop voucher.
Most importantly, the day raised an outstanding £8,000 for The DPJ Foundation, helping the charity continue its invaluable work supporting mental health in rural communities. The total was achieved through the generosity of players, sponsors, raffle prize donors, silent auction bidders and supporters throughout the day.
Special thanks go to the many volunteers whose hard work ensured the smooth running of the event: Gilly Jones, Cathy Griffiths, Ann Collins, Wyndham Collins, Alison Daniel, Lynne Campbell and Gareth Thomas.
Particular appreciation is also extended to Linda Tordoff-Evans and Irene Gilman, who undertook the considerable task of organising the competition and recording scores throughout the day.
Captain Brian would also like to thank Valero, all tee-box sponsors, prize donors, auction supporters and everyone who purchased raffle tickets or made donations on the day.
He added: “Events like this simply do not happen without the generosity of so many people. Whether you played, volunteered, sponsored a hole, donated a prize, bought raffle tickets or bid in the auction, thank you. Together we have raised a fantastic amount for a very worthwhile cause and created a day to remember.”
