Tenby Golf Club’s Junior section celebrated Christmas in style on Sunday, December 18. The festivities commenced with 17 junior golfers playing an individual stableford round in their respective categories. The weather was kind to the youngsters, the course as always in excellent condition, which made for some fine scoring.

The nine-hole yellow box competition and David Hughes Cup was won by Iestyn McAvoy, birdying four of the last five holes to snatch victory from Cameron and Roy, with Rhys and Ned a few points behind.

Seren Allen was victorious in the girls’ nine-hole competition, winning The Mary Rowell Cup, with Nel and Lucy tussling for second place, eventually secured by Nel on the last hole, to win the Margaret Williams Salver.

Nine players competed for the Under 11s Cup in a modified stableford format, Fletcher lifting the trophy, four points clear of his nearest rivals, Jess and Archie. Very good scoring all round and congratulations to Ruby, George, Ieuan, Oli, Jonah and Rhys.

All players were then ‘mixed and matched’ into teams and played a four-hole Texas scramble on holes 11 to 14. The winning team was Iestyn, Lucy, Oli and Jonah.

Back at the packed clubhouse, the golfers were joined by other party-goers and their friends and families.

Club captain Neil Thomas presented the silverware, which included trophies played for earlier in the season, while other prizes for the day were kindly supplied by NFU Mutual Pembroke.

Haf Cup - Ned Davies; Duffy Cup - Nel Allen; Southcliffe Trophy - Archie Hughes; Rowland John Memorial Bowl - Roy Edwards; Noyce Cup - James Hancock; Argent Cup - Nel Allen and Chris Hughes; Russell Jones Cup - Cameron Davies; St. Andrews Salver - Lucy Anthony; Millennium Shield - Nel Allen.

Following several verses of Jingle Bells outside on the patio, which was reported to have been heard in Manorbier, Father Christmas made a grand entrance, from over the hill on the first in a golf buggy, being driven by one of his elves, to balance it out, much to the delight of all present.

Santa settled in his grotto, an orderly queue was formed and early Christmas presents were handed out, but only for those who had been good.

Party games followed and everyone was fed and watered.

A good time was had by all and a big thankyou to everyone who assisted in the organisation of the event and who helped on the day.
