THE Regimental Bowl and Cobb Cup at Tenby Golf Club was run this year as the Club Championship with cards prepared beforehand.

There were starters for the morning and afternoon events, a running scoreboard in the club room, and a grand presentation at the end of the day.

The oldest trophy is the Regimental Bowl, a testament to the club’s enduring military connection.

It was presented in 1933 by the 1st Battalion of the Essex Regiment, who were then garrisoned at Llanion Barracks in Pembroke Dock.

It is the club’s premiere net medal competition, played as a 36-hole event on the same day as the Cobb Cup.

The Cobb Cup was presented in 1969 by Mrs P Cobb, her husband having been club captain from 1952–1954. This is a medal trophy to find the club champion and is the most difficult to win.

The 34 entrants played the first 18 holes in beautiful conditions. The leaderboard added to the excitement, and club president David Blackmore, having been starter in the morning then acted as course marshal.

The early leader on gross scores was Michael Schooling on 74, and on net score Dean Rossiter on 68.

As the afternoon round were out the weather turned. The temperature fell and the wind and rain blew in. After countback on the net scores, Rhys TG Davies was in third place behind Michael Schooling. Roy Edwards led they by a point

But then the drama began, as the gross scores of 149 were recorded by both Roy Edwards and Dave Morris and since it was a championship they were sent out again for a sudden death play off which was won on the fourth hole by Roy.

Prizes were awarded by captain Heather Morgan, who thanked everyone who worked hard to make it a successful event.
