THERE’S a new Rory on the USA golf scene. His name is Rory Henshaw and he’s five years old.

No. That’s not a misprint. He’s five years old, lives in Tenby, and is now in America, representing Trefloyne Golf Club in the US Kids Golf Finals, at Sandestin, Florida.

He flew out on Tuesday, 13 January and his first practice round is three days later.

Rory qualified thanks to a series of wins in his category, on the tour run by US Kids Golf across the UK. His first win was at Wernddu, Abergavenny on 20 September, followed by The Monmouthshire on 11 October, where he wasn’t alone – Liliwen Thomas, another Trefloyne star, won the Girls’ 8-and-under category.

He then went on to win at Fairwood Park, on 26 October 26th and Bargoed on 29 October, and to round off his fantastic season he won the Boys 6-and-under Tour Championship, at the US Kids Golf Finals at The Grove, Porthcawl, on 2 November 2nd, with some great golf.

His golfing story started when he joined Trefloyne Junior Golf Academy in 2023, at the ripe old age of 3. That’s way younger than PGA Fellow Matthew Rees normally takes on, but he was so keen and totally committed, with so much promise and potential, that Matthew made an exception.

Coaching sessions on the driving range led to three-hole competitions in Trefloyne’s Junior Sunday Club. From there he quickly progressed to five-hole comps and then the full nine hole medals, where he achieved his first handicap of 49.3, at the age of five.

Rory is a regular in Trefloyne’s Golf Sixes matchplay team's round-robin matches with Haverfordwest and Milford, He won medals in each category as he progressed, took the Easter Cup and, and won the Ping competition at Haverfordwest and the Wales Golf Mini Masters at Trefloyne and Pennard. And he was joint 3rd at the final of the Ping Junior Golf Tour at Carmarthen.

Not surprisingly, he was Trefloyne Junior Section Champion, 2025

The support for Rory has been great, and he wants to say he’s so grateful for all the support that’s helping to cover the trip’s expenses, and allowing him to make his dream come true.

He and his parents thank everyone who donated to crowd funding, Trefloyne members and management who raised and gave about £1,300, and Tenby and County Trust for their £500 (a charity that supports youngsters as they, ‘pursue their aspirations and ambitions’).

Knowing Rory, he’ll take it in his stride and do his level best. And we’re all right behind you, Rory.
