August Bank Holiday Monday is always a popular day at Trefloyne Manor and this year was no different, with 70 players playing in the annual Family Texas Scramble.
The course has been in superb condition over the summer and Monday was no different, with the greens running true and the sun making an appearance throughout the day!
Following golf, the owners very kindly put on food for all competitors, which was warmly received.
Overall winners on the day were Gavin Scotcher, Greg Palin, Richard Cope and John Broomhead with an incredible 60 gross nett 57.6! Second went to Bob Forrest, Pat Forrest, John Richards and Brinley Hughes, with the team of Alun Williams, Phil Smith, Tim Black and Neil Sturgess taking third place.
As always, there were several skill events taking place all over the course, just to keep members on their toes. Dave Mcmann took the gents nearest the pin on the 12th, with Jane Richards taking the ladies event on the 16th. Longest drive on the seventh went to Frank Arentz, with Sue Crowley taking the ladies long drive on the fifth.
Following lunch, director of golf Ollie conducted the presentation, during which a donation of £100 was made to each of the Ladies, Dyfed League and Seniors sections to assist with team events in 2018. It was another fantastically successful day where the real heart of the club was on display.
Owner Joan Beynon had the following to say: “It was great to see so many members at our family day and reassuring after all these years.
“Although the sun didn’t shine all day, when it did make an appearance, it was warm and ideal for two people (Kim and I) who haven’t played very much golf over the last year. The course was and is in superb condition and thanks must go to Ian and the team for all their hard work as always, the team in the kitchen didn’t disappoint and the restaurant and bar staff were their usual happy and helpful selves.
“Trefloyne may have seen many changes since 2004, but for us seeing the faces of people who have supported us for the last 13 years alongside our new members was lovely. Thank you, Kim, Joan, Tom and Sian.”
