Tenby Golf Club was delighted to host the West Wales Golf Alliance recently.
Taking place on Friday, March 24, with over 60 entrants from fifteen clubs across West Wales, the participants enjoyed a day of high sunshine, Atlantic breezes and stunning views from the course.
The golf was even better, with the course condition (and the greens in particular) receiving much praise from participants.
“It was a stern test on the course with a stiff breeze and some tricky pin positions,” said Paul Davies of Carmarthen golf club.
Tenby is Wales’ oldest golf club with records dating back to 1888. A James Braid designed links course with rolling fairways and a sandy lie, this is one of the most enervating and challenging courses in Wales.
The day was won by local club professional Matthew Moseley and his partner Alan Price from Carmarthen golf club with a fabulous score of 60 (-12).
The separate professional’s individual competition was also won by Matthew Moseley with a magnificent score of 65 (-7)
Alan Price of Carmarthen golf club said: “The course was in superb condition - it’s a jewel of a course and was so happy to play in such beautiful (but windy!) conditions.”
Second place was also taken by Tenby locals, Mike Schooling and Adam Thorne with impressive score of 63 (-9).
The West Wales Golf Alliance was formed in 1970 at Ashburnham golf club and plays on courses from Green Meadow in the East to the Westerly outpost of Tenby.
Players take part in competitions from September to April across West Wales. With sharp drainage (and little or no mud!) Tenby Links course remains playable through the winter season.
