Last Friday evening saw former Narberth RFC Junior player and current Welsh international centre Jonathon Davies return to the Lloyd Lewis Ground for a special dinner and give reflections on his current experiences as an international, the 2012 Rugby World Cup and the special training period in Poland prior to the World Cup tournament in New Zealand.

The visit was a result of Narberth RFC bidding for his services as part of the Slave Auction for the Dyfrig George Trust Fund which took place in Llanboidy in 2012. Last year, Dyfrig became a motor neurone disease sufferer, which is such a debilitating illness. The fund has been set up to support Dyfrig and his young family.

The Narberth RFC and Friends donated £1,150 to the Trust Fund. The Trust Fund has raised over £30,000 via the local community.

Jonathon Davies was accompanied by current international team-mate Ken Owens, Under 20s squad players Sion Bennett and Conor Lloyd and Under 18 cap Josh Helps, who have progressed from the Otters Junior Section via the Scarlets Academy to premiership rugby with Carmarthen Quins. Unable to attend was another Under 20 national squad member, Will Boyde.

During the evening, Sion Bennett presented his international jersey to the Narberth club chairman John Owen.

The evening was expertly directed by MC  Robert 'Basher' Lewis.

After the main talk by Jonathon Davies, there followed a question and answer period.  During the evening, a raffle and auction also took place. The raffle winners were Martin Bowen and Alison Houghton. A Welsh training top auctioned by Robert 'Basher' Lewis went to the winning bidder, Nigel Vaughan.

Club vice-chairman Dorian Phillips gave a vote of thanks to those attending and explained the background to the evening; and thanked Jonathon Davies, who was a distant relation to the George family, for participating in such a deserving cause.

Congratulations must go to organisers John Owen, Dorian Phillips and Robert 'Basher' Lewis for their efforts in organizing the event. Also special thanks to Anne Lonsdale and her staff for providing the delicious meal.
