The Tenby Walking Football Over 50s side has recently been renamed as New Hedges and Saundersfoot to reflect a new era and their association with the renaissance of the newly formed New Hedges and Saundersfoot United club, based at Saundersfoot Social Club.

“Everyone is delighted to bring football back to Saundersfoot,” said Ray Wise of the team.

To mark the new era the Over 60s walking footballers hosted the Wales Over 65 team in a proper football match in Saundersfoot recently.

“This was the first time some of our walking footballers had played regular football for well over 25 years,” continued Ray.

“Every member of the squad was involved in the eleven-a-side game.

“As expected, Wales won, but it was a closely fought game with a magnificent effort by all players.

“Wales won 3-1 and everyone enjoyed the challenge, including the supporters who were vociferous in their support of the home team.

“While Walking Football will continue on a regular basis, further senior veterans games may now be planned - once the players have stopped aching!” he added.
