Weather postponements decimated the Pembrokeshire League football programme over the weekend after a host of games were called off due to waterlogged pitches.
The Saints’ second string were in action, however, as they travelled away to Angle seconds in the first round of the division four cup, although they lost 1-0 thanks to Stuart Ferrier’s goal, while Narberth thirds went to St. Florence for their first round clash and lost 3-1. Ryan Williams scored the Bluebirds’ only goal of a disappointing afternoon, while an own goal and one apiece by Colin Batley and Jamie Roberts ensured the win for the Saints.
In division one, Angle went down to Milford United, losing 3-1, while a Patrick McDonagh goal was enough for Pennar Robins to beat Herbrandston 1-0 in a match sponsored by The Star.
There was a surprise in division two as leaders Lamphey lost 1-0 to last year’s division two cup winners Hundleton. Joe Lewis scored the only goal of the game for the visitors as they inflicted a first league defeat of the season for the Stags.
In division three, Cosheston Cougars drew 1-1 with Broad Haven, with Luke Hendry scoring the home team’s goal.
The cup game between Pembroke Boro and Carew thirds was full of drama with, Carew going through on penalties. Andy Martin, Adam Williams, Josh Sture and Phil John all scored for the hosts, but a Ben Field-Thomas hat-trick and one by Tom Arthur ensured the visitors took it to penalties and they held their nerve to win it.
A win for Pennar Robins’ thirds, too, as a Dean Wilcox goal ensured they beat Milford Athletic seconds 1-0.
