SAUNDERSFOOT BOWLING CLUB

OPENING OF

The GREEN

Saundersfoot bowling green was officially opened for the 2016 season last Saturday, with the honour of rolling the first wood being undertaken by the chairman of the local Community Council, Clr. Phil Baker.

Phil, who was accompanied by his wife Ann, drew within a foot of the jack, which resulted in the comment ‘what are you doing on Saturdays this summer’ to which he jokingly replied: “I had practice in 2008 when I was last chairman!”

Prior to this, club chairman Myrddin Dennis had welcomed everybody and thanked those members who had worked hard to get the clubhouse, green and surrounds ready for the opening.

President Ann Lewis completed the ceremony by thanking Clr. Baker and offering her thanks for the work undertaken by the members.

Ann then congratulated Ceris Hewlings, Steph Amos and Gemma Amos for having been selected to represent Wales this season.

Paul and Kath Blayney were wished a successful year, Paul as president of the men’s Pembrokeshire County Bowling Association and Kath for becoming president of the Welsh Ladies Indoor Bowling Association for the 2016/2017 season.

The weather, despite the forecast, remained fine, but cold, and a few hardy souls then took to the green for their first roll-up.

Afterwards, guests and members enjoyed a buffet and a few drinks in the warmer environment of the clubhouse.

FIXTURES

Next week’s ladies early season fixtures have been postponed until later in the season due to the clash with John Dugmore’s annual tour which is earlier than normal this year and which will see most of them on holiday.

The men intend a get-together tomorrow at 2 pm before their first league fixtures the following weekend.

A further friendly has been added in June against Bonymaen and is in addition to the ones listed in the club handbook.

Details are on the notice board.

MEYRICK OWEN COMPETITION

After some consideration by the men’s county executive, it has been decided to continue with this one rink league competition.

The fixture list was not completed in time for inclusion in the club handbook, but has been posted on the notice board, with Bob Storey and Peter Guyett offering to look after the competition.

The first game will be away to Pendine on Tuesday, May 10, between the top two teams from last season, when St. Brides lost the title on shot difference.

COUNTY COMPETITIONS

Will those male members who have entered county competitions please note that in the county handbook, the main singles draw is incorrect.

To ensure there is no confusion, either refer to the county website which is correct or contact Mike Gouldingay, who has a correct copy.

Also, Section B of the senior singles has been omitted from the handbook and again, this can be obtained from the website or by contacting Mike or Paul Blayney.

Please note these details, as if you are involved in the first round, these games have to completed by May 9.
