It was a weekend of high scores, cup triumphs and the odd postponement for Pembrokeshire’s football teams last Saturday, with Carew once again proving they are a force to be reckoned with, not just in the county, but further afield too.
They travelled to Maltsters Sports for their fourth round West Wales Intermediate Cup clash and came home with a memorable 4-0 win.
With Goodwick and Merlins Bridge winning their games, too, it proved to be a good weekend for Pembrokeshire clubs in the competition, with only Hakin’s postponement preventing it from being a clean sweep of wins for our clubs.
Shaun Whitfield led the scoring for the Rooks in their 4-0 win, with other goals following from Sam Christopher, Scott Fearney and Jordan Richards.
In league action, St Clears were at Milford United yet lost 2-0, while Monkton Swifts continued their fine form this season with a fabulous 6-1 victory at home over Clarbeston Road.
James Russell led the scoring with a well-taken brace, with other goals coming from Chris Richards, Daniel Scourfield, Ben Nicholas and Jake Seaton.
Narberth’s home clash against Pennar was postponed, while Saundersfoot’s trip to Neyland ended in a 4-2 defeat, with the Sports’ goals coming from Jake Webster and Curtis Hurlow.
Hundleton’s good start to 2019 came crashing down after they suffered a 7-0 defeat at home against Merlins Bridge seconds, with Kilgetty’s game against Broad Haven postponed.
Two goals by Owen James and and own goal helped Lawrenny to a 3-1 win over Camrose, yet that paled into insignificance compared to Carew seconds’ home victory over St Florence after the hosts romped to a 9-0 win.
Adam Muskett led the way, scoring five of them, with Herbie Haggar netting twice and the others coming from Corey Hill and Tom Arthur.
Monkton Swifts’ seconds beat Clarbeston Road seconds 6-3 thanks to goals by Jordan Kilvey, Josh Sture, Jamie Preece, Ryan Boswell and a Wayne Boswell brace.
A win for Pendine too after they beat Goodwick United seconds 3-1 after two from Callum Sydall and one from Damien Lewis.
Victory for Pennar Robins’ seconds too with a 4-0 win over Milford United seconds thanks to goals from Connor Willis, Jack Sutherland, Jack Phillips and Ceri Griffiths.
The game between Pembroke Boro and Solva seconds was postponed after Solva were unable to raise a side, with St Clears seconds’ game against Narberth seconds postponed.
In division four, Kilgetty seconds’ game at Broad Haven seconds was postponed as was Cosheston’s game against Llangwm H’west CC seconds and Pembroke Boro seconds’ clash against Herbrandston.
There was drama in the semi-final of the Division Five Cup after Carew thirds beat their counterparts from Monkton 4-3 on penalties after it finished 4-4 at full-time.
Later in the week, it was announced that Monkton would be withdrawing their third team from the league.
