PEMBROKESHIRE defender Ben Phillips is set to return home after signing for Haverfordwest County ahead of the 2026-27 season.

The Neyland-born defender joins the Bluebirds following a lengthy spell in Swansea City’s academy system, where he progressed from a young age before moving to Swansea on a scholarship at 16.

The versatile centre-back, who can also operate in midfield, enjoyed a strong 2025-26 campaign, featuring regularly for Swansea’s under-18 and under-21 sides. He was part of the under-18 team that reached the last 16 of the FA Youth Cup, including a notable away victory over Leeds United.

Phillips has also represented Cymru at under-17 and under-19 level, making his latest appearance for the under-19 side in October last year.

He will become part of Haverfordwest County’s new hybrid model, allowing players to train full-time alongside their football commitments as the club looks to support player development.

Manager Tony Pennock welcomed the signing, saying: “Ben joins our club with glowing references from so many people I respect.

“He has had a long period at Swansea City, and now looks forward to being involved in senior football for the first time.

“It’s obvious to see the grounding he has had at the Swans. Being an under-19 Wales international shows the pedigree he has, and continuing to train full-time will aid his development.”

Phillips said the chance to return to west Wales and continue training regularly made the move an attractive one.

“I’m really looking forward to joining the club,” he said.

“Moving back home, the ground is only 15 minutes from home which is ideal for me, and I can’t wait to get started.

“With the hybrid model, I just love being out on the pitch every day, so that’s one of the main reasons I wanted to come here.”
