Kilgetty AFC, club chairmam has said it’s fantastic to see how the new women’s team are progressing - as they gained their first ever win on the weekend.
Kilgetty AFC Women played Milford Athletic Ladies team for the third time on Sunday (February 19). After facing them home and away, Kilgetty lost their previous games against Milford.
Playing on the 4G pitch in Haverfordwest, Kilgetty kicked off strong, pressing hard.
Cara Evans took a close shot, just missing, but Lizzie Walsh stepped up giving Kilgetty the lead.
Cara Williams built on the lead scoring her first goal for the club, putting Kilgetty 2-0 at half time. Marie Lightwood took her first shift in goal, doing an excellent job.
Milford came out stronger after half time, pulling a goal back, but Kilgetty pushed on with Becky Bonser scoring the side’s third.
Lizzie finished the game with her second goal making if 4-1, gaining Kilgetty Women’s first-ever win.
“What a fantastic game of football today ladies. It's been a long time coming, but we finally got our first win,” said coach James North.
“As a coach, I couldn’t be more proud. Watching you develop into a well-jelled football squad. We keep training hard and more of these wins will come our way.”
Noting the progress of female participation at Kilgetty AFC, Kilgetty chairmam, Lukas Gamble, said: “It’s fantastic to see how our new women’s team are progressing. We are all very proud of the women representing our club.
“The membership at Kilgetty is almost 50% female now, and they are a massive part of the future of this club.”
