HAVERFORDWEST County earned a valuable fifth win of their JD Cymru Premier Play‑Off Conference campaign with a determined 1–0 victory over Cardiff Met at the Ogi Bridge Meadow on Friday night.
A crowd of more than 500 saw substitute Owain Jones strike the decisive goal 10 minutes from time, rewarding a performance in which the Bluebirds were the more assertive and inventive side throughout.
County controlled long stretches of the match and consistently looked the likelier team to break the deadlock, but a combination of missed chances and stubborn Met defending kept the game scoreless deep into the second half.
Jones’ close‑range finish, prodding home after the visitors failed to clear a corner, finally broke the resistance and ensured Haverfordwest maintained their four‑point cushion at the top of the Play‑Off Conference with four games remaining.
Tony Pennock made two changes from the defeat to Flint Town United, with Kyle Kenniford returning from injury and Elliot Scotcher making his first start since Boxing Day.
The opening half was disrupted by a 12‑minute stoppage after a collision involving Lewis Rees and Panashe Makwiramiti, and chances were scarce once play resumed. Dylan Rees twice went close from distance, while Met’s Dixon Kabongo fired over just before the interval.
County began the second half with greater urgency. Greg Walters’ deflected header drifted wide, and a goal moments later was ruled out for offside. Dan Hawkins then forced Ewan Griffiths into a low save, before Walters tested the keeper again with a sharp turn and shot.
Pennock introduced Iori Humphreys and match‑winner Jones midway through the half, and although clear openings remained limited, the pressure eventually told.
After Jones’ breakthrough, Met pushed forward, but Ifan Knott dealt comfortably with Jake Morris’ long‑range effort, while Rhys Abbruzzese saw a late strike pushed away.
