Llanion Warriors Rowing Club held its first ever WSRA National League Race on the Cleddau River, on Sunday, August 10. Teams from coastal towns take part in the annual Celtic longboat sea-rowing league programme, that occurs between April and September. The whole event was based at PAC Adventure Centre who very kindly provided all of the facilities for the whole fleet and their supporters. Mens, ladies, mixed, novice and junior crews, from as far away as Anglesey and Mumbles, participated in a series of races, which saw them race from Rudders Yard, under the Cleddau Bridge around Neyland and Hobbs Point, finishing at the PAC Centre at Warrior Way. Rowers race in different categories, which are determined by age: juniors (14-18), seniors(18-40), vets (40-49) and supavets (50+). Novices teams include people new to the sport. The weather made the races even more of a challenge, in waters that, as locals know, can be quite testing, even when conditions are benign. The winners of the different race categories were: Mens (Supavets) - Newport (Pembs). Under 18 - Newport (Pembs). Mixed (Seniors) - Aberystwyth. Under 16 - Towy (Llansteffan). Mixed (Vets) - PYC (Milford). Ladies (Seniors) - Newquay. Mixed (Supavets) - Neyland. Ladies (Vets) - PYC (Milford). Novices - PYC (Milford). Ladies (Supavets) - Llangwm. Mens (Seniors) - Solva I. Mens (Vets) - Solva II. Well done to all teams in tough conditions.
