Recently, our head professional Oliver Duckett (back row, first from left) was invited, along with seven other top coaches, to attend the Sports Coach UK Inclusive Coaching Seminar.
Run in conjunction with Golf Development Wales, the seminar offered the coaches an insight into developing their expertise and coaching skills from a disablity golf perspective.
Wales is at the forefront of disability sports coaching and this vital resource has been presented with future Paralympic games in mind. Two of the UK's top Inclusive Golf Coaches were on hand to deliver the seminar, which concluded with Oliver and his collegues delivering lessons to children and young adults with a range of disabilities.
Following the success of the day, Golf Development Wales has offered a funding opportunity to deliver a series of fun and exciting coaching sessions at Trefloyne's new undercover golf school, due for completion in March.
Oliver will be looking to enrol both children and adults with hearing and sight impairments, wheelchair users, amputees, and learning difficulties.
Budding golfers can enrol onto the scheme any time over the next four weeks by calling Oliver on 01834 845639 or emailing [email protected]">[email protected]. If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Golfer of the Week
Our golfer of the week this week is Finn Arthur, seen above with club professional Oliver Duckett.
Finn is a strong footballer and plays for Tenby Football Club. He has been a keen member of the Trefloyne Junior Section for five years and has completed all levels of the Academy programme.
This year, Finn has been invited to join the Junior First Team Squad and is looking forward to playing in his first team match for Trefloyne.
Everyone would like to wish Finn all the best for the 2014 season. No doubt we will be reading a lot more about him this year.
Junior Captains Day
Junior captain George Taylor would like to invite you to his 2014 Captain's Day, which is being held on Tuesday, February 25 (half term), starting at 11 am. The event is open to all junior members and will follow a four-man Texas Scramble team format.
Please call Ollie on 01834 845639, tweet @oliverduckett or visit the Trefloyne Junior Section on facebook to register.
You will need to register in advance as a draw for teams will take place on Sunday, February 23.
Ladies' Section
Despite the extremely inclement weather over the past few weeks, Trefloyne's lady members have remained resolute as they have continued to enjoy their weekly round of winter golf on Ladies Day, followed by a good chat about the game, over drinks and delicious lunches in the clubhouse!
Tuesday was, of course, no exception to the rule and so at 10 am a group of resilient ladies was ready and waiting at the pro shop to take on the challenges of both the weather and the golf course!
Everyone was in high spirits, ready to give it their best shot and a good time was indeed had by all. We were even lucky enough to experience some rare sightings of blue sky and sunshine - a very welcome treat which certainly bucked us all up!
Sue Ensor had a birdie on the second hole - well done Sue, you really did hit some fab shots out there!
Other news: Last Tuesday (January 28), we met up after golf to wish our lady captain, Rita Collins, a very happy birthday. We all sat round the roaring log fire for a bite to eat, followed by birthday cake and a glass of wine to celebrate! Happy birthday Rita!
Last Saturday, we held a fundraising evening and after a scrumptious meal of cottage pie and seasonal vegetables, we had a darts competition kindly arranged by Sue. It was great fun and, even though some of us (myself included!) struggled to hit the dartboard, we all had a really good time!
