The curtain will fall on the West Wales Area Point to Point season today (June 4), with an entertaining day set to take place at the Pembrokeshire meeting at Trecoed. First race is off at 2 pm, and an Amateur Hunt Scurry Race and Pony Racing will follow.
Of the eight entries in the Hunt Race, recent winner Macarthur catches the eye, having won comfortably last time out at the Gelligaer meeting, under Charlotte Evans. Brideberry won this race last year, but hasn’t been since. He has some form to his name, and if back on form, could be one to challenge.
There are 10 entered in the Restricted race, and John Mathias seems to have the pick of the main. The trio of Glenteeneasaigh, Back of the Rock, and Last of the Buds have all been Mathias’ mounts this season, and any one of these could come home in front. Mad Money and Welsh Designe are also of interest.
The four-mile Mixed Open has attracted 16 entries, including the Nicky Henderson owned Medieval Chapel, with daughter Camilla taking the reins. The pair have one win to their name this season. This race has the potential to have an exciting finish, with the likes of Boyfromnowhere, Really Unique and the prolific Rosies Peacock all entered up. The Mickey Bowen trio of Cygnet, Sir Du Bearn and Tony Star could all come home in front too.
With 18 entries, the Open Maiden has attracted the most on the card. Overtoujay has come close a couple of times this season and will be looking to drop his maiden tag. Another hoping to do the same is Tim Vaughan with Dounya’s Boy, Pull the Trigger, Renfrew and Master Hyde who finished third last timeout. Saymor could be there abouts for Jonathan Tudor too.
The Intermediate could go anyway of the eight entries. Ride On Time was a winner last time out for rookie trainer Robert Llewellyn, and looks to have some great potential. Last of the Buds, Princess Tina and Glenteeneasaigh have all won this season, and Nicholasville gave jockey Lorcan Williams his first ever winner earlier on in the season.
