The weekend was a virtual washout across the county for the latest round of league cricket fixtures, although a hardy bunch from division three donned their whites to give the game a go.
Neyland seconds entertained Haverfordwest thirds, with the Town scoring 217-6 in their overs, before Neyland responded on 133-3, at which time rain curtailed any more play.
The game between Saundersfoot and Lawrenny seconds went the distance, however, with the division’s best team prevailing once again and once again it was Paul Mansbridge who stole the show. He may be a veteran of the local game, but the stylish right-hander’s appetite for runs shows no sign of slowing down as he struck and imperious 71 alongside knocks of 28 by skipper Sam Franklyn, 24 from Nicky Cope, 25 not out from John Mansbridge and 21 for younger brother Tom.
For Lawrenny, Harry Thomas took 2-38 and Phil Cole 2-45.
In reply, Jack Franklyn snared three wickets for 12 and Tom and John Mansbridge took two wickets apiece as Lawrenny were skittled for just 130. Ryan Morton scored 33, while Brad McDermott Jenkins hit 20.
The win cements Saundersfoot as favourites for a swift return to division two, which will be no mean feat considering they started the season with penalty points against their name.
