Last Saturday evening, Kilgetty Cricket Club held their annual dinner at Kingsmoor Sports Club, where the food was fantastically prepared by cricket club chairman and his partner, Kath and Mickey Marsh.
After the sumptuous food, Mickey thanked so many for attending and hoped everyone enjoyed the informal evening. He went on to thank all players, supporters, scorers, tea ladies and groundsmen for their superb help during the season.
He then went on to thank Stuart Allen for his help with coaching and managing the Under 15 team, Trevor, Becki and Jonny for all their help with the juniors, Chloe Bland and the newly-formed ladies team, together with Justin Gotwaltz for all his help with the newly-formed Under 9 team - they all enjoyed their season so much and were inspirational.
Mickey thanked his committee for all their demanding work behind the scenes, and explained that Ian Poole was sadly unable to attend the evening, but wished all a wonderful time.
He then thanked Brian and Louise for their support during the season and for all their help for the presentation evening, also Allen Hurst for supplying the disco. Bouquets were presented to Hazel Poole and Rose Jenkins for all their help, not only with scoring, but many other duties for the club.
He then thanked his president, Colin Williams, for all his support and asked him to assist Geoff Marsh in presenting the trophies.
Awards were presented as follows:
2nd team bowler who was presented with the Mike James memorial for most wickets - Antony Lewis with 17 wickets.
2nd team batsman who scored most runs in the season - Andrew Evans with 298 runs.
2nd team players’ player of the season - Andrew Evans.
1st team bowler who was presented with the Mike James Memorial for most wickets - Ross Hardy with 18 wickets.
1st team batsman who scored most runs in the season - Kyle Marsh with 367 runs.
1st team players’ player of the season - Kyle Marsh.
Geoff closed his presentations by reminding players that Kurtis had been awarded a Welsh cap during the season by Welsh Colleges.
Richard Merriman presented a framed bat to the club which he was awarded in Barbados whilst umpiring on the Pembrokeshire Under 16s cricket tour. He explained that Kilgetty’s Levi Hughes played on this tour and when he informed the Barbados officials that his local club was Kilgetty Cricket Club, a certain official said, ‘give my regards to Jenks and Rose’ -the official was none other than Henderson Springer, who they met in Barbados in 1998 after making friends with him whilst he was playing cricket for Haverfordwest.
Mr. Graham Jenkins was then asked to present the Peter Tucker Memorial Trophy to the most outstanding junior, as family members Shirley Poole, Gerry and Dennis Tucker were either indisposed or unable to attend. He thanked the family for this honour, humoured Shirley for losing her voice and went on to award the trophy to a delighted Levi Hughes. Levi was informed that his new bat would be awarded personally by Gerry at a later date.
The raffle then took place, with prizes kindly donated by supporters, players and friends, for which they were gratefully thanked. Winners were: Jill Cope, Brian Rees, Becki Badham, Hazel Poole, Anthony Bevan, Ann Switzer, Lukas Gamble, Ollie Gamble, Shirley Poole, Owen James and Dylan Phillips.
Before the disco commenced, Richard Merriman thanked Kath and Mickey for such superb food. An enjoyable evening then followed, dancing to Allen Hurst’s excellent choice of musical entertainment.
