A hearing has been set for next week after Carew Cricket Club were charged with bringing the game into disrepute following the side’s tactics to break the so-called ‘spirit of cricket’.
The controversy came as Carew grabbed the league title on the last game of the season after declaring on 18-1, rather than tackle a ‘winner takes all’ battle head-on with rivals Cresselly.
Following the uproar, which made national headlines, the matter was investigated by Pembroke County Cricket Club, who released a statement on Wednesday.
“Pembroke County Cricket Club received several written complaints concerning the conduct of both Carew Cricket Club and their captain, Brian Hall, following their match with Cresselly,” commented PCCC secretary Steve Blowes.
“In accordance with the procedures as outlined in the county handbook a disciplinary sub-committee met on Monday, September 11.
“As a result of that meeting Carew have been charged with bringing the county cricket club into disrepute, and Mr. Hall has been charged with a failure in his duties as a captain in ensuring the game was played within the spirit of cricket,” he added.
The hearing date has been set for Tuesday, at Haverfordwest Cricket Club.
