A Pembrokeshire College student has been selected to compete in the Special Olympics GB National Games in August.

Level 3 Beauty Therapy student, Lydia James earned national selection with fellow members of the Pembrokeshire Special Needs Gymnastics Club, Jemma Bowie-Hallam, Adele Veban, Leon Davies and Josh Critten.

Lydia, who is looking forward to performing on the elite stage, said: “I train once a week in Milford Haven Leisure Centre and once a month for the Olympic squad in Penarth. I’ve been doing gymnastics for about seven years in total!”

The Special Olympics GB National Games will see over 2,500 athletes of all ages and abilities from across the UK come together to compete in the country’s largest multi-sports event for atheletes with intellectual disbilities. Lydia will perform in the Level 3 category, showcasing her gymnastic talents on the floor, beams and vault bars, following a spectacular opening ceremony at Sheffield United Football Club.

In September, she will continue with her studies by following the college’s Complementary Therapies course which will be housed in the new state-of-the-art treatment rooms of the Campus 6 building.
