Reigning World and National Powerboat champions, Sam and Daisy Coleman, of Saundersfoot, settled for a solid silver medal in last weekend’s UK season opener.

The Aalborg Regatta, Denmark hosted some fantastic heat racing, with over 70,000 spectators enjoying the weekend festival.

Sam and Daisy qualified second, pipped by just four tenths of a second to pole position by current USA champions and fellow Welshmen - James Norvill and Christian Parsons-Young.

Sam and Daisy won both of their heat races on the Saturday, setting the stage for a straight showdown between the UK and USA champions in Sunday’s grand finalé.

Ultimately, with the teams so evenly matched, it was pole position which enabled the USA champs to make it first to the first turn mark.

With a tight course and flat water, James and Christian drove faultlessly, leaving no opportunity for the hard-charging Coleman Racing to take the win.

With a solid start to the season, the real icing on the cake for the weekend was a fantastic debut for the Milford Waterfront backed team of Andrew Foster and Charles Morris in the ‘Pembrokeshire Panther’, who completed the Welsh takeover of the weekend’s grand final podium.

The next round takes the teams to Greenock for the Scottish leg of the tour in only two weeks time, before they head to home waters in the P1 Welsh Grand Prix of the Sea, Milford Haven, over the weekend of July 15 and 16.
