In their debut season racing together, the sibling pairing of ‘Coleman Racing’ from Saundesrfoot are making quite an impact in the world of Offshore Powerboat Racing.

Sam and Daisy Coleman took a 25-point lead into the championship race at Cardiff Bay over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Here’s what the team had to say following the race on home turf.

“I had mixed feelings going into the penultimate round in Cardiff,” said Sam.

“Having run well in the flat of Greenock we knew we’d be faced with similar, so this didn’t worry us. It was more the heat format and over regulation of the racing due to the tight confines of the bay.

“The pressure was on to maintain our championship lead at home, but we’ve been in this situation before.

“Here last year a collision inevitably cost us the championship.”

Daisy continued: “The six-week season break didn’t help. As the boat was tied up having repairs, we were unable train and test, so were less than confident going in to fast lap qualifying and with no other boats on the water we were unable to gauge our performance.”

Daisy said that the team were pleasantly surprised to be placed second, after winning all three of their heats to tie on points with Quantum Racing.

“A countback on times meant we missed out on pole for the Super Final and Quantum were able to hold us to the outside of the first turns,” she explained.

“In the seven-lap race we pushed and pushed as hard as we could as the Quantum boys drove a brilliant defensive race, giving us a good drenching on several occasions!

“Hands down, that is the most exciting race we have ever done!

“Despite narrowly missing out on the top step of the podium, we are buzzing with our results and head into the final round this weekend in Bournemouth with a 39-point lead.

“Huge thanks to all our friends, family and sponsors who came to support us and the P1 organisers and Cardiff council for laying on another awesome event!” added Daisy.
