Carew will return to the top flight of the Pembrokeshire League next season as a home victory over Milford Athletic saw them clinch the three points needed for promotion.

An unexpected defeat for rivals Milford United at St. Ishmaels also meant the Rooks with 54 points on the board, cannot now be caught at the top of the table and Carew's long-awaited elevation to the first division will be as division two champions.

Defending against a very strong wind in the first half, Carew failed to really get going and found themselves a goal behind at the interval after Jack Daines had given the visitors the lead, stroking home a loose ball in the penalty area.

In the second half, Carew, with the wind behind them, took the game to the visitors and quickly levelled when Adam Muskett slotted home from a tight angle.

The Rooks then went on to clinch the game with further goals from captain Iwan Izzard and a third from Haydn Shapcott, whose in-swinging free-kick from near the corner flag deceived everyone before nestling in the top corner of the net.

The victory gave Carew the three points needed to secure promotion, and after the game the news filtered through of Milford United's surprise defeat at St. Ishmael's to secure promotion as champions. This was the cue for huge celebrations for the home team and all their fans long into the night.

The second promotion spot is now a straight contest between Milford United and Prendergast Villa. With two games left, Milford can get 53 points, while Prendergast can get 52 points if they win their four games. The crunch game is sure to be on Saturday, April 11, when Milford travel to Sir Thomas Picton School to face Prendergast, when both teams will be trying for the points necessary to go up.
