August proved a very busy month for Tenby Sailing club hosting two sets of national championships, Fireflies, and The Redwings and Enterprises.

The club is delighted to announce that its very own Mike and Deanna Stace are the new Redwing National Champions.

Mike and Deanna have had a few second places in past championships, missing out by small margins, but after a tense week of racing their consistency achieved the ultimate goal – National Champions of the Redwing class.

A second Tenby pairing of Robin Wood and Daniel Jackson achieved second place – well done Team Tenby.

To make it even more special, the Mayor of Tenby, Cllr Sam Skyrme-Blackhall was on hand to present the trophies to very worthy winners.

The commodore, Terry Evans, would like to thank all at Tenby Sailing Club for their gargantuan efforts over the two championships.

The Club hosts the RS Aero class next year and this will take place toward the end of August – watch this space.

It’s been a busy couple of weeks at the sailing club with the second National Championships of the summer, this time for the Redwing and Enterprise classes.

These picturesque boats with their red or blue sails were a beautiful sight racing on the clear waters in the bay.

Winds were generally light for the event which was run in conjunction with our friends from Looe Sailing Club.

Darren and Hayley Roach from Looe dominated the Enterprises, while in the Redwings Mike and Deanna Stace took the championship after many years of trying. Well done both teams.

On the Saturday following the Nationals several club racers, having not sailed for a while, decided to go racing in no wind! A very small course was set and the four participating boats set off.

Eventually the windward mark was reached and the boats turned into the outgoing tide. Travelling even slower the competition got ever hotter!

Osprey Best Chance powered underneath Silverlode, then past Osprey Back Again at the gybe, finally roaring over the top of Osprey Carpe Diem on the final leg.

An effort attributed to weed on the rudder of the other boats by the chopsy crew! Silverlode won on corrected time!

On the following Tuesday evening things got back to normal with an evening race in reasonable easterly wind.

Eight boats competed in a race dominated by Robin in his International Canoe, with Osprey Best Chance second and Scorpion Silverlode third.
