Pendine Bowling Club’s annual ladies open two-wood triples tournament was held last weekend.

Conditions for the always popular early season event were far from ideal, with Storm Hannah whipping up gale force winds which blew across the green all day.

But the ladies of the WWLBA are made of stern stuff and 15 trios battled on regardless in the competition, which initially saw the teams split into four round robin leagues.

After a break for a sumptuous lunch, four of them returned to the green for the semi-finals, which featured trios from Whitland, Milford Haven, host club Pendine and a combined team from Saundersfoot and Pendine.

In fact, Whitland’s Cally Jones and Kathy Jenner were looking to walk off with the trophy (and £150 prize money) for a second successive year, this time joined by newcomer to the club, Katie Dickinson.

And they were not to be disappointed as they again tasted success, accounting for the Pendine trio in the semis and going on to beat Milford’s Heather Griffin, Angela Thomas and WWLBA senior vice-president, Sylvie Davies, in the seven-end final.

Afterwards, everyone adjourned to the warmth of the clubhouse, where the prizes were presented by WWLBA junior vice-president, Kath Blayney, of Saundersfoot, who also thanked the Pendine club for hosting what had been another successful and enjoyable event, kindly sponsored by Castell Howell Foods Ltd.
