The St Issells men completed their second division league programme last weekend with two matches.

On Saturday they entertained Neyland followed by an away trip on Sunday to Haverfordwest to play St Thomas.

Unfortunately, defeats on both occasions saw them finish third in a rather truncated season due to teams having dropped out of the league which will be helped next year with two sides being relegated from division one, namely St Kaths of Milford Haven and Five Arches of Tenby, with only Fishguard and Goodwick earning promotion.

Against Neyland, who were forced to play with two triples, suffering the mandatory twenty five percent reductions in their shot count, the match was quite even with the visitors winning by just under two shots and with two winning rinks each, a haul of ten points to Neyland and four to St Issells.

Rink scores with St Issells first and Neyland skips only were: George Cavell, Wynne Evans, Peter Guyett, Mike Ashbridge 20 Alan Smith 21.

Nev Ruff, Barrie Lee, Rod Bramhall, John Haig 20 Alan Cole 14.25.

Billy Glynn, Mike Carr, Mike Oliver, David Walters 13 Gordon Robson 27

Paul Sneyd, Peter Williams, Dave Hicks, Dennis Ball 21 Brian Hamer 13.5.

At Haverfordwest, only one point was gained in a defeat by twenty four shots.

Rink scores with St Issells first and St Thomas skips only were: Billy Glynn, Eirwyn Davies, John Amos, David Walters 12 Ken Simpson 25.

Nev Ruff, Barrie Lee, Roy Hooper, Rod Bramhall 15 Martin Jones 22.

Dennis Reed, Ken James, Mike Carr, Alan Rich 17 Phil John 17.

Paul Sneyd, Peter Williams, Roy Harris, Dennis Ball 20 Dave Summers 24.

Captain Alan Rich would like to thank the St Issells squad plus his fellow selectors for their support this season and hopefully a more successful campaign next year.

FRIENDLY MATCHES

Last Friday, the club played a six rink friendly against tourists from the Woolston club in Southampton.

An enjoyable afternoon was followed by a meal prepared by vice chairlady Dianne Rigden, Alwen Hughes, Anne Davies and other ladies and then a few hours of socialising, with much laughter in the clubhouse.

The match itself saw Saundersfoot win by ten shots thanks mainly due to the rink skipped (yes skipped!) by club captain Graham Hughes who scored forty two shots to the visitors five.

Now farmer Graham is a specialised lead but perhaps after this the Saundersfoot skips need to be looking over their shoulders!

Rink scores with Saundersfoot first and Woolston skips only were: Peter Williams, Wynne Evans, Barrie Lee, Don Poole 15 R. Mclaron 29.

Roy Hooper, Rene Silcox, John Amos, Myddin Dennis 18 H.Owen 17.

Dennis Reed, Pam Bowen, Mike Carr, Rod Bramhall 11 L.Smith 25.

Val James, Ken James, Steph Amos, Graham Hughes42 W.Smith 5.

Lynne Reyed, Alan Rich, Sandra Ingerson, Dai Davies 19 K.Watts 14.

Kath Williams, Christine Ball, Dave Hicks, Dennis Ball 18 W.Wrigley 23.

The club visited Cardigan the same week for their annual outing and pictured are the villagers prior to the match.

The next fixture is a seven rink mixed encounter against the Clydach bowling club in the Swansea valley on Saturday, September 15 and the list for availability to play is on the notice board.

WELSH TEAM SELECTION

Congratulations to Stephanie and Gemma Amos who have again been selected for the senior Welsh squad to play in the international series in Jersey next June.

Steph and Gemma will also be representing Wales in the British Isles Pairs and together with Ann Lewis be playing in the Triples event.

CLUB PRESENTATION EVENING

This takes place tomorrow evening at the clubhouse when the winners and runners up of the seventeen club competitions will receive their prizes.

It is also hoped that the Pembrokeshire County Bowling Association President, Mr. Jim Thomas of Milford Haven will be in attendance to present the first division league trophy to the successful Saundersfoot captain Berwyn Dennis and his squad.
