Recently held at St. Elidyrs Bowls Club, the Pembrokeshire youth team played the annual Under 16 singles and a new singles competition for the under 21s of the squad.
As the squad has grown, members have started to reach the age of over 16. But we still do have four under 16 squad members who qualify to play in the competition, these being, Amy Davies, of Letterston, Rhys O’Mara, of St. Elidyr, Luke Mattson, of Freystrop, and finally Emily Kilminster, of Tabernacle.
Congratulations to Rhys on winning this competition. The standard of bowling throughout this age group was extremely high, especially from Luke, who is only nine and this was his first competition. We look forward to watching these members of the squad grow closer and stronger bowlers.
The under 21s competition was new this year. There were five entries for this, namely Sophie Fry, of Penally, James and Sarah John-Davies, of Freystrop. Cameron Kilminster, of Tabernacle, and Tom Webb, of Tavernspite.
Congratulations to James on winning the competition.
Everyone who took part in this competition played to an excellent high standard and should be proud of themselves.
May I add my thanks to all the parents and fellow supporters who stayed and supported the young bowlers, to Mr. Gordon Williams for doing all the paperwork, to the ladies in the kitchen, to Mr. Clive Law and Gordon Williams for arranging the competition, and to Mrs. Shirley Williams, who presented the trophies.
Sara John-Davies
