CARRUTHERS SHIELD
TENBY 85
LLANDRINDOD WELLS 67
Last Saturday the Layton and Co Solicitors sponsored Tenby side travelled to Llandrindod Wells for a quarter-final match in the Carruthers Shield. Captain Jon Webb and his team knew this was going to be a tough test, and with the opposition on their own turf it was always going to be a close encounter.
On the show rink were Cameron White, John Baggott, Pat Currie and skip Paul Diment. Matched up against legendary Llandod skip Ken Price, this was always going to be a test for the Tenby four. The opposition got off to an early lead, but Paul and his men are made of sterner stuff and soon adapted to the pace of the green and cruised to a very impressive five-shot victory.
Next up were Luke Rees, Aaron Lloyd, Peter Day and Andrew Muskett. This contest was close throughout, with the lead switching practically every end. The Tenby foursome kept it as tight as they could, but were just edged out by two shots.
Dai Spencer, Jon Webb, Mike Jackson and John Roberts were always in control in their encounter. With skip John in scintillating form, the Tenby men blasted away their opposition by 18 shots.
Neil Dickinson, Joe Richards, Luke and Craig Guymer had a battle royal on their rink. Eleven shots in arrears at the halfway stage, the Tenby lads dug in and at the end reduced the deficit to a match-saving three shots.
A fabulous 18-shot win now puts the Tenby team into the semi-finals and another trip to Llandod to face RTB Ebbw Vale. This is the third time in four years that the team has made it to the finals at the home of Welsh Bowls. A very happy bus returned to Tenby late that night, but the good performances did not stop on the bowling green. John 'the Silencer' Roberts wowed the crowd with his vocal skills, and as it was Olympic fortnight, Pat Currie even entertained everyone with a very polished gymnastic routine.
Rink scores (Tenby first, Llandridnod skips only):

DIVISION ONE
TENBY 105 (14 pts)
PEMBROKE DOCK 59 (0)
After the previous day's heroics, it was back to domestic honours for the Layton and Co Solicitors Tenby team. A rather hungover team travelled to Pembroke Dock for what is always a potential banana skin, as the Dock team are always up for the challenge.
Rink one consisted of Cameron White, John Baggott, Dai Spencer and Pat Currie. The Tenby men had it all their own way in the first two-thirds of this encounter, establishing a big lead, but the opposition rallied and pulled back towards the end of the contest. The Tenby four though still had enough in the locker to run out eight-shot winners.
Ben Cloake, Steve Sheldon, Mike Jackson and John Roberts were on rink two. John and his men raced into a 15-1 early lead, but finished very similar to the previous rink, holding on at the end to win by seven shots. We even witnessed a new style of celebration from Steve 'Welbeck' Sheldon as he produced a marvellous end winning bowl.
Neil Dickinson, Aaron Lloyd, Jon Webb and Peter Day had total control in their contest. Even with the weather interruption, they maintained their form throughout to win their rink by an impressive 20 shots.
Gerald Hewitt, Kevin Lewis, Joe Richards and Andrew Muskett were on rink four. As on all the other rinks, the Tenby foursome grabbed the upper hand at the start and then maintained the gap throughout the contest. An 11-shot victory was the final outcome for Andrew and his men.
Pembroke Dock is never an easy place to win, so captain Jon Webb was delighted with his team's maximum haul, but he also congratulated the opposition on their fighting spirit throughout the contest.
Tomorrow, the Tenby side are again in league action at 2 pm in the home derby against the 5 Arches. With the Arches desperate for points, this could be a very intriguing contest.
Rink scores (Tenby first, Pembroke Dock skips only):
Cameron White, John Baggott, Dai Spencer, Pat Currie 23; D. Buchanan 15.
Ben Cloake, Steve Sheldon, Mike Jackson, John Roberts 26; R. Jones 19.
Neil Dickinson, Aaron Lloyd, Jon Webb, Peter Day 30; B. Dowling 10.
Gerald Hewitt, Kevin Lewis, Joe Richards, Andrew musket 26; R. Thomas 15.
